Home Run Inn: Read more about
Home Run Inn here
When the winning run from a neighborhood baseball game shattered the front
window of their newly purchased tavern, Mary and Vincent Grittani decided to
name their establishment Home Run Inn. That was 1923. From then, until the late
1940’s, their business remained a small neighborhood bar where Vincent served
the drinks while Mary prepared the noon meals.
In 1942, a fellow named Nick Perrino married Loretta Grittani. Like the rest of
the thousands of World War II soldiers, returning to civilian life, Nick was
searching for a way to support his family. So in 1947, Nick formed a partnership
with his mother-in-law Mary Grittani, and together they developed the recipe for
Home Run Inn pizza as we know it today.
In response to the growing demand for the great taste of Home Run Inn pizzas the
family introduced frozen pizza to the Chicagoland area in the late 1950’s. Over
the decades expansion continued as the family opened new Home Run Inn
restaurants and carry out locations. Then, in 1987, Home Run Inn built its 1st
USDA manufacturing facility to keep up with the ever-increasing demand of its
legendary pizza, while staying true to the original family pizza recipe.
